MOUSE-REPLACEMENT TECHNOLOGY- Thanks to a resistive rubber technology, Varatouch Technology Inc., Sacramento, CA, has developed a line of VaraPoint products, said to provide a replacement for computer mice in a variety of keyboards, Internet appliances, and hand-held wireless systems. The VaraPoint devices are disk-shaped sensors that translate human touch into full, 360° variable-rate motion control or to a standard two-axis grid. They're adaptable to a wide range of control interface tops, including miniature joysticks, disc-style caps and the company's pivoting ball. Sensors are offered in active or passive models and in switched or non-switched varieties. OEMs can obtain fully assembled sensors or components that are ready for integration on their pc boards.
