Claimed as a breakthrough in infrared sensing technology, a new optical emitter/phototransistor pair, designated the OPB100, is capable of variable distance sensing up to 1 meter. The 890 nm input diode features forward dc current of 100 mA with reverse dc voltages up to 2.0V and power dissipation of 142 mW. The output phototransistor features collector-emitter voltage of 30V and emitter-collector voltage of 5V. Collector dc current is 50 mA with 250 mW of power dissipation. Operating temperature ranges from −40°C to +85°C. Designed for easy mounting, the emitter and phototransistor are encased in separate opaque plastic housings and utilize universal mounting clips that enable simple installation onto pc boards, as well as metal or plastic mounting fixtures. Each component is provided with 24" of 26 AWG wire for easy installation. Pricing for each OPB100 pair is $4.63 in 1,000-piece quantities. TT ELECTRONICS, OPTEK Technology, Carrollton, TX.
