Claiming a first within their price range, the single Synth300S and dual Synth300D PCI-based frequency synthesizers provide automatic-sweep and modulation capabilities across a bandwidth from 1 to 300 MHz with an output of 500 mV into 50W. Both are programmable in increments of 0.223 Hz and allow up to four user-defined frequency/phase profiles. Frequency- and/or phase-modulated waveforms can be generated and controlled by software or external hardware. Typical applications include RF component testing, a/d converter, data-acquisition, and oscilloscope clocking, time Vernier measurement, determining oscillator drift, and spectral response. Both boards include sample programs and drivers for Windows 2000/XP, Red Hat Linux, and Solaris 8 or 9. Single-unit prices for the Synth300S and Synth300D are $1,495 and $1,995, respectively.
