As circuits grow smaller, faster and ever more tightly crowded together on pc boards, their sensitivity to the effects of electrostatic discharges (ESDs) also increases. In general, any communication line linking circuits such as ICs to the outside world makes the board susceptible to ESD events. Numerous devices have been developed to deal with this potential problem, with the latest being a new line of polymer-based ESD suppressors. PulseGuard ESD suppressors are designed to help computers, peripherals, telecomm equipment, and other products employing a 24 vdc or less operating voltage to comply with IEC 1000-4-2 standards, through Level 4. Key features of the suppressors include
