Reporting a footprint reduction of 72%, the MAX8621Y and MAX8621Z power managers integrate 4-MHz step-down dc/dc converters, four LDO regulators, a reset timer, and an open-drain driver in 24-pin TQFN packages measuring 4 mm x 4 mm. A comparable design employing seven discrete SOT23 components would, reportedly, consume 75 mm2 of board space. The device’s converter outputs are sequenced to ensure proper microprocessor startup, and the LDOs provide individual on/off controls. This allows the devices replace discrete designs without requiring software to be rewritten. Both devices exhibit efficiencies up to 92%, allowing the use of a 1 ΜH inductor. The four LDOs deliver outputs up to 45 µVRMS, two of which supply 300 mA (out 1 and 2) while the remainders contribute 150 mA each (out 3 and 4).
