Targeting edge and enterprise level communications systems, the Palomar 500 PCI mezzanine card (PMC) packs a 750CXe PowerPC processor and interchangeable SDRAM modules. The processor's integrated 256 KB L2 cache operates at 133 MHz (400 MHz core) and can be reduced to 100 MHz (300 MHz core) to decrease power consumption. The mezzanine card also employs a low-profile 144-pin SO-DIMM socket that supports interchangeable, laptop-style SDRAM modules ranging in density from 64 to 512 MB. And an on-board GT64260B system controller not only serves as a PCI bridge from the processor to the PCI bus and host board, but also serves as a CPU bus interface, memory controller, Ethernet controller, and as an RS-232 serial controller. Other features of the PMC include 4, 8 or 16 MB of Strataflash memory, two RS-232 channels, and one 10/100 Ethernet interface via a front panel RJ-45 connector. With 256 MB of SDRAM, pricing is under $800 each. SBS TECHNOLOGIES INC., Albuquerque, NM. (760) 438-6900.
