Promising to reduce the cost of voice-over-IP (VoIP) equipment, the Multi-Service Processor (MSP) family adds PSTN-quality VoIP capabilities to residential and SOHO broadband gateways, analog telephone adapters, and small enterprise-class, IP-based PBXs. The family includes four processors: the MSP2015, MSP2020, MSP4000, and MSP5000. Employing a 32-Bit MIP architecture microprocessor core and up to two dual-MAC DSP cores, the devices integrate both the routing function and the VoIP CODEC into a single device while providing the necessary performance to handle voice channels and high-speed data connections. Software development kits are available to support VxWorks, Linux, or proprietary operating systems. A comprehensive support package, which includes an evaluation/development platform, software development kit, board layout and design documentation, and application notes, is also available.
