Pin programmable for 1-, 2- or 3-phase operation, the ADP3205 hysteretic peak current mode dc/dc buck converter controller is fully compliant with the Intel Mobile Voltage Positioning (IMVP)-IV specifications. The specs were developed to help maximize the operating time of notebook computers by minimizing the CPU’s core voltage and frequency. By combining the ADP3205 with the previously introduced ADP3415 dual MOSFET driver, OEMs can reportedly build dedicated triple-phase core controllers with balanced current sharing and excellent transient response. Operating out of phase, the multi-phase core controller is designed to drive the power FET switches of a non-isolated synchronous buck power converter topology with minimized ripple. Other features of the ADP3205 include adaptive noise blanking, said to ease board layout, and redundant over- and under-voltage protection. The device comes housed in a 40-pin, 6 mm x 6 mm chip-scale package (CSP) and operates over the industrial temperature range of 0°C to 100°C. Price: $2.40 each/10,000.
