The CY8C24794-24LFXI programmable system on chip (PSoC) is the company's first such device to integrate a USB 2.0 Serial Interface Engine (SIE), a feat that predicts shorter design cycles, lower component counts, reduced board space, and lower power consumption. Its USB SIE relies on a 0.25%-accurate clock with an integrated oscillator to meet USB 2.0 clocking specs. The device operates on supply voltages from 3V to 5.25V and employs the company's CapSense technology, which replaces mechanical switches and controls with touch-sensitive components. Other features include four unidirectional endpoints and one bi-directional control endpoint, up to 48 analog inputs, six configurable PSoC analog blocks and four digital blocks, 16 KB of flash memory, 1 KB of SRAM, and an 8-channel DMA to a dedicated 256-byte buffer for the USB SIE. Additionally, development support is via software that promises users basic implementation in less than an hour. Available in a 56-lead, 8 mm x 8 mm MLF package, price is less than $2 each in high volumes. CYPRESS SEMICONDUCTOR CORP., San Jose, CA. (408) 943-2600.
