In a 5 mm x 5 mm micro leadframe package, the Aero II assumes title as the industry?s smallest and most integrated, quad-band GSM/GPRS transceiver. The device provides an entire quad-band radio, excluding power amplifier and antenna switch, in an area less than 1.0 cm2, using five components total: the transceiver, crystal, SAW filter bank, and two standard bypass capacitors. Components integrated on the transceiver include RF and IF VCOs, tuning components for the VCOs, loop filters, and clock coupling capacitors. Additionally, it supports the use of a VC-TCXO module and includes a digitally-controlled crystal oscillator (DCXO) that allows the use of a standard 26-MHz crystal to provide the transceiver reference clock. Price is $4.94 each/10,000, and an evaluation board is available for $250. SILICON LABORATORIES INC., Austin, TX. (512) 416-8500.
