RTC Razes Current Drain

Setting benchmarks for ultra-low power consumption, the RV-2123-C2 real-time clock (RTC) typically draws 130 nA at 3V, making it a viable contender for use in portable products. The component provides an ultra-wide 1.1V to 5.5V operating range and resides in a 10-pin SON ceramic package with an integral 32.768-kHz tuning fork crystal, a CMOS-based oscillator, and RTC circuitry. At room temperature, frequency and time keeping is within ±10 ppm or within ±20 ppm at 25°C. Additionally, a user programmable frequency offset compensation register is on board to improve time accuracy. Aging rate is at a maximum of 3 ppm for the first year. Price for the RV-2123-C2 is under $1.80 each/10,000. MICRO CRYSTAL, Buffalo Grove, IL. (847) 818-9825.
