SBC Teams PowerPC With High-Bandwidth Memory

Oct. 1, 2000

The PPC4B PowerPC COTS VMEbus single-board computer is claimed to achieve a quantum leap in performance via the implementation of a very high bandwidth memory architecture coupled to the latest high-frequency PowerPC 750 and 7400 processors. Data buses include an L2 cache bus operating at 200 MHz, a 100-MHz memory bus yielding sustained data rates of up to 457 MB/s, and a 64-bit, 66- MHz PCI bus.
Features include a 10/100 BaseT Ethernet interface, SCSI port, up to four serial ports, and keyboard, mouse and parallel ports plus support for two PMC sites. Memory options include up to 256 MB of SDRAM without the need for memory expansion cards, up to 144 MB of flash, and up to 2 MB of L2 cache. The board also supports PCI sub-system expansion for air/conduction cooled applications.
Software support includes popular COTS operating systems such as VxWorks and Lynx OS and built-in test.
