Introduced as the industry's first complete DSL and cable modem security processor, the 7951 integrates all security functions including compression, encryption, authentication, public key, and random number generation. The device is said to take over the complex security functions from the integrated CPUs commonly used in broadband products. It performs multi-algorithm encryption acceleration on a single chip with an on-board IKE processor for public key operations. Supported protocols include IPSec, IPPSP, PPTP, L2TP, PPP, and IKE. Algorithms that can be performed by the device include DES, 3-DES, and RC4 encryption, RSA, DSA and DH public key, SHA-1 and MD5 authentication, and LZS(R) and MPPC compression. The device is also reported as generating true hardware random numbers and symmetric and public key processing is performed concurrently to enable low-latency performance.
