Single VME slot supports 24 Gigabit Ethernet ports

XMC optical fibre cards deliver ‘highest’ density VME switching for copper and fibre in defence and aerospace applications.

Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing has introduced two new optical fibre XMC modules, the RazorBlade III-SX and RazorBlade IV-LX. When used with the SVME/DMV-680 SwitchBlade Gigabit Ethernet switch, the two deliver Gigabit Ethernet through up to 24 ports over copper and optical fibre. The company says this is the industry’s highest density, single slot VME switched solution.

The VME-680 SwitchBlade allows system integrators to establish chassis-to-chassis, board-to-board, or CPU-to-CPU connections over Gigabit Ethernet. The VME-680 SwitchBlade basecard is available in either 12 or 20 Gigabit Ethernet port configurations. With RazorBlade XMCs, the VME-680 SwitchBlade can be expanded to a 24 ports. Systems needing more ports can cascade two or more SwitchBlades.

The management and control software integrated in the combined RazorBlade and VME-680 SwitchBlade solution include the suite of Layer 2 and 3 protocols to support the intelligent switching and routing of IP packets. Systems may be remotely configured, monitored and upgraded through a secure set of interfaces, reducing system debug and maintenance costs.

The combination can be used as a building block to design Intra-Platform Networks (IPN) which link IP-based networks on-board air, land and sea vehicles for defence and aerospace applications.
