Designed to keep an eye on temperatures around Pentium IIs and other sophisticated CPUs, the MAX1617 and MC1066 temperature sensors feature on-board temperature-sensing diodes and are serial programmable via the system-management bus (SMBus). The SMBus permits the reading of internal and external temperatures, the programming of threshold points, and the general configuration of the system. Both devices feature independent internal and external threshold set points that can be configured with an interrupt signal generated when the temperature falls outside the presets. Also included in both devices is a low-power standby mode. Offered in a 16-pin QSOP, pricing is $2.39 each/10,000.
