Offered in a 5- by 7-mm surface-mount package, the low-jitter R2980 PECL oscillator replaces larger through-hole PECL types that have often been a barrier to the production of high-frequency all-surface-mount circuit boards. This 3.3-V oscillator features clock signals from 15 to 320 MHz. The R2980's dual output enables the differential clock transmission required for noise immunity at high frequencies. It maintains 45/55 waveform symmetry, holds total jitter below 6 ps RMS, and achieves typical waveform rise and fall times of 225 ps. The oscillators are designed for 0°C to 70°C operation and can be supplied in ascending stability grades from ±100 ppm (R2980) to ±20 ppm (R2988). The R2980 oscillators cost less than $18 in OEM quantities.
