SOC-Type ICs Operate Up To 10 Gbps In Optical Networks

Feb. 1, 2000
Operating at 2.5- to 10-gigabit-per-second (Gbps) rates, the TADM042G5 and TSOT0410G are a pair of ICs that provide add/drop multiplexing functionality, SONET/SDH framing, and data termination in high-speed linear and protected ring optical networks.

The highly integrated system-on-a-chip (SOC) devices reportedly can replace shelves of circuit boards in high-speed communications systems, simplifying networks while slashing system development costs by up to 70% and reducing time-to-market by at least six months. The ICs transmit data using multiple network protocols and data rates. They support synchronous optical network/synchronous digital hierarchy protocols for linear and ring ADM and data termination solutions for optical networks. All devices are available in 600-ball LBGA packaging.
