The firm's RAMP software is said to extend the multiprocessing capabilities of real-time operating systems. The Real-time Asymmetric Multi Processing software features an API and a microkernel that makes it easy to distribute programs across multiple CPUs on a single board. RAMP software works out of the box on multiprocessor Pentium systems running VxWorks, but can also be adapted for other real-time operating systems. The software implements a form of decoupled multiprocessing in which a single master processor coordinates the activities of multiple slave processors. Each processor runs its own tasks fairly independently and all operate out of shared memory. It's said to be an efficient and cost-effective alternative to symmetric multiprocessing and an easy-to-implement alternative to pure distributed processing. Run-time versions are royalty-free.
