In response to the growing concerns about manufacturing yields for pc boards populated with increasingly smaller components, the company is offering a nickel barrier termination option for its line of multilayer varistors (MLVs), including the 0402 (EIA 1005) size. The option enhances the solderability of the MLVs by improving the wetting characteristics of the termination and thus resisting sliding and tombstoning during the board assembly process. The improved solderability feature is especially important in the manufacture of consumer products, such as handheld devices, computers and game consoles. The nickel barrier treatment also provides a component with greater flexibility in board layout and processing. LITTELFUSE INC., Des Plaines, IL. (847) 824-1188.
