A DisplayPort-based timing controller (TCON) with integrated digital backlight LED driver is designed for notebook LCD panels. It’s the first product from IDT featuring it’s Power Smart technology, focused on reducing power consumption and extending battery life. This embedded DisplayPort-based solution combines a backlight LED driver with an IDT PanelPort timing controller into one device, which works in conjunction with a power management IC. A traditional analog LED driver is implemented in the digital realm, eliminating the need for a power-intensive, high-voltage analog process. The result provides designers with inherently finer and simpler control of power management functions, such as enabling the digital brightness adjustment via the DisplayPort interface. Power Smart technology not only improves the image quality on the notebook display but also helps to extend battery life and provides designers with increased flexibility by freeing up valuable board space. The devices are currently sampling and range in package size from an 8-pin DFN to a 64-pin QFN. Pricing is $6.00 each in 10,000-piece quantities. INTEGRATED DEVICE TECHNOLOGY INC., San Jose, CA.
