Tiny Package Can Hold Visible Or IR LEDs

Dec. 1, 2001

Packages measuring a mere 3.4 x 2.8 mm that are suitable for pc board and panel mounting are available housing visible or IR LEDs, all members of the ESM series. The visible LEDs include GaP green (ESM-565GC) and GaAs/GaP yellow (ESM-585YC) devices having a spectral bandwidth of 30 nm. With a drive current of 30 mA they emit light having 565 nm and 585 nm wavelengths, respectively. Operating temperature range for the LEDs is -40¡C to +80¡C.Other members of the visible LED family include GaAsP/GaP high-efficiency reds (ESM-635EC) and GaAlAs super reds (ESM-660).The GaAlAs infrared LED family includes ESM-880 and ESM-950 models having peak wavelengths of 880 nm and 950 nm, respectively, at a drive current of 20 mA. Prices for ESM series LEDs start at $0.34 each/100. ELEKON INDUSTRIES USA INC., Torrance, CA. (800) 353-5661.
