Tiny RF Relays Consume Little Power

Sept. 1, 2002
A series of four new RF relays—the G6K-RF, G6Z, G6Y and G6W—includes three of the smallest relays of their kind on the market: the G6Z measures 9.5 x 8.6 x 20 mm; G6W measures 9.2 x 9.4 x 20 mm; and G6K-RF measures 5.4 x 6.9 x 10.3 mm. All

All four relays consume very little power. The G6Z, G6Y and G6W consume 200 mW, while the G6K-RF consumes 100 mW. Isolation characteristics vary from 20 dB for the G6K-RF to 60 dB for the G6Y, both at 1 GHz. At 2.5 GHz, the isolation for the G6Z is 30 dB and the G6W is 60 dB. For versatility and ease of use, the G6Z's characteristic impedance allows it to work at both 50W and 75W. Since the G6Z and G6W have both a Y and E input/output arrangement, designers can lay out a PC board without the need for extra tracings and patterns. Reverse contact versions for both relays further reduce the need for extra tracings. Ideal applications vary for each relay, but they include wireless infrastructure equipment, cable TV boxes, satellite equipment, instrumentation, and high-speed LAN networks. Pricing for the G6Y and G6Z is $1.50/10,000; the G6K-RF is $10/10,000; and the G6W is $50/10,000. OMRON ELECTRONICS LLC, Schaumburg, IL. (800) 556-6766.
