Designed to illuminate keyboards in wireless handsets, digital-still and digital-video cameras and MP3 players, the NLSF595 eight-segment, tri-color LED driver provides multiple lighting features while consuming little power and occupying minimal board space. The device has a static supply current of less than 1.0 µA at 25°C typical, operates over a voltage range from 2V to 5.5V, and supports data rates of greater than 25 MHz. When operating on 3.3V, data can be input at rates up to 50 MHz. Over-voltage tolerance at the output allows the device to drive LEDs directly even if they are connected to a supply voltage as high as 7V. Deployed on a SPI bus interface (D, C, EN) using only three leads, two drivers can be cascaded to drive five LEDs without increasing the number of control lines. Offered in a 3 mm x 3 mm QFN, price is $0.22 each/10,000. ON SEMICONDUCTOR, Phoenix, AZ. (800) 282-9855.
