No way. PCI, PCI-X, and even ISA have a life after serial interconnects, and most mid-to low-end microcontrollers have even more basic parallel interfaces. These interfaces are slower than the new serial interfaces, but the parallel interfaces are more than sufficient to support a wide range of applications. Applications that require more bandwidth can always switch to the high-speed serial interfaces.

Parallel buses will continue to flourish for a number of reasons. One fundamental reason is the ease of board and system design. Serial interface technologies require higher tolerances and more sophisticated board layout techniques. Also, multilayer boards are a requirement. So if it's possible, keep it simple. Go parallel.
