Offered as an industry first, the companyÕs 10 Gb/s, VCSEL-based 1310-nm serial transponder is a compact 200-pin device suitable for use in both OC-192 and 10 Gb/s Ethernet applications. It integrates a jitter filter, high-speed serializer, laser driver and a 10-Gb/s, 1,310-nm VCSEL on the transmit side. The receiver incorporates a PIN photodiode, transimpedance amplifier, limiting amplifier, clock and data recovery (CDR) circuit, and deserializer. The SC or LC pigtailed optical connections allow positioning in tight layouts. In addition, the transponder features a switchable bit-order function for operation in both Ethernet and SONET environments. Price is less than $8,000 each in small volumes.
