Honed within a 4 mm x 4 mm BGA package, the BCM2085 embarks as the industry's first 65-nm, and smallest, EDGE cellular RF transceiver. Integrating the analog baseband and DigRF interface, the device relies on a unique polar transmit architecture to lower transmit power, eliminate filters in the transmit path, and support the use of standard linear power amplifiers from multiple third parties. The receiver also exploits a low-IF architecture, providing suppression of dc offsets while avoiding the issues common to direct conversion receivers and easing integration with basebands. Additionally, the transceiver includes the company's proprietary SmartRadio technology, which employs continuous real-time calibration techniques. Price for the BCM2085 is $5 each/100,000.
