Intended for use in automotive applications, the AMIS-X660 CAN is suitable for use in 12V and 24V systems and achieves transmission rates up to 1 Mb/s. The transceiver exhibits low electromagnetic emission (EME) specs, low enough to eliminate the need for a common-mode choke. Built-in protection features include a thermal protection circuit that triggers shutdown at approximately 160ºC, 45V load dump protection, and continuous short-circuit protection to both supply and ground. Additionally, a transmit data (TXD) dominant time-out function prevents bus lines from being driven to a permanent dominant state. The CAN transceiver comes in a SO-8 package with an operating temperature range from -40ºC to +125ºC. Price is $0.74 each/5,000. AMI SEMICONDUCTOR, Pocatello, ID. (208) 234-6890.
