CDMA Solution Delivers High Data Rates

The MSM5100 mobile-station modem chipset supports the third-generation 1x multi-carrier (MC) standard and is based on the company's MSM3300 chipset and software architecture. The MSM5100 chipset can provide data rates up to 307 kb/s on both forward and reverse links, up to a 50% increase in standby times, and up to twice the overall capacity for voice than IS-95A and IS-95B systems. The set is also said to provide the most efficient solution to integrating Bluetooth baseband processing into a comprehensive 3G CDMA chipset and software solution. Optional software will enable audio features that include Qtunes MP3-player software and CMX MIDI-based multimedia software. Fabricated in a 0.18 mm CMOS process, the chipset operates from a 2.3V to 3V supply and comes in 208-ball FBGA. Sample units are expected to ship in the fourth quarter of 2000.
