In its second generation, the TN2022 emerges as the industry’s first dual-port 10-Gb Base-T PHY IC. The chip doubles the port density of switch and network interface cards when compared to first generation 10-Gb Base-T devices. Also touting the smallest form factor available, the device enables switch manufacturers to design as many as 48 RJ-45 ports into a single rack unit. It consumes 6W per port and nearly halves the power consumption of first-generation PHYs while operating at cable lengths exceeding 100 meters. In addition, the TN2022 features multi-rate capabilities, enabling its use with RJ-45 Ethernet connectors and making it backward compatible with existing 1 Gigabit and 100 Megabit network gear.
