Claiming to provide excellent linearity, noise floor, and over-temperature carrier suppression, the RF2480 direct quadrature modulator (DQM) is capable of universal direct modulation for complex modulation formats supporting a variety of wireless applications. Operating from a single 5-V supply, the device has a carrier suppression over its operating range of 35 dBc/Hz.
The IC implements a differential modulator, limiting amplifiers, a summing amplifier, and an RF output amplifier to drive a 50-ohm load from 800 MHz to 2.5 GHz. Typical applications for the device include CDMA, TDMA/ EDGE, GSM/EDGE, and W-CDMA base stations, WLAN systems and fixed wireless systems. It also accommodates GMSK, QPSK, 8PSK, DQPSK, and QAM modulation formats.
