Targeted at SOHO applications, the AT79C1020 is an unmanaged, level-2 Gigabit Ethernet switch that integrates four 10/100/1,000 Mb/s Ethernet ports with MII/GMII interfaces. An on-chip packet buffer supports a store-and-forward switching approach that eliminates the need for additional RAM chips as packet buffers. Compliant with IEEE 802.3ab CSMA/CD, the device is fabricated in a 0.18-µm CMOS process and available in a 160-pin PQFP. Price is $8.95 each/10,000. ATMEL CORP., San Jose, CA. (408) 441-0311.
