The GANGES (S19202) is said to be the industry's first OC-192 framer to support full-duplex mapping of ATM cells or packet-over-SONET (POS) for either concatenated or channelized SONET/SDH payloads. GANGES supports a single OC-192c or four OC-48c/STM-4 fiber interfaces with concatenated traffic. It also supports channelized traffic on a single OC-192/STM-64 or four OC-48/STM-16 fiber interfaces with logical combinations of STS-48s and STS-12s.
According to the company, the flexibility and high performance of this device makes it ideal for use in carrier-class core routers and switches, enabling ISPs to quadruple the throughput of their IP data networks. Additionally, the GANGES can map any type of traffic including 10-Gbit Ethernet. GANGES joins the INDUS (S19201) framer IC and the S3091/S3092 PHY to form a complete the OC-192 product family. Packaged in a 624-pin CBGA and manufactured in 0.18 µm CMOS, the GANGES (S19202) is priced at $725 each/1,000. Volume production is scheduled for Q3, 2000.
