For GPS-enabled apps operating in the 1,575-MHz band, the MAX2686 and MAX2688 low-noise amplifiers (LNAs) promise to outperform GaAs and pHEMT LNAs and CMOS receivers. Residing in WLPs measuring 0.86 mm x 0.86 mm with a 0.4-mm pitch, the LNAs specify a 0.75-dB noise figure that improves receive sensitivity over discrete and CMOS solutions. Typical operating current is 4 mA. When not in use, an optional logic-enabled shutdown mode reduces supply current to less than 1 mA. For a higher level of receive performance in the face of in-band and out-of-band blockers, the MAX2688 provides approximately 6 dBm better in-band and out-of-band IIP3. The MAX2686 and MAX2688 operate from a 1.6V to 3.3V supply and across a temperature range from -40°C to +85°C. Prices start at $0.50 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA.
