Three new members have been added to the MicroFace series of IrDA-compliant transceivers for use in space-limited, power-restricted products, including PDAs, cellular phones, pagers, and other handheld battery-operated products. With typical dimensions of 7.3 mm x 4.55 mm x 2.8 mm, the TFDU4202, TFDU4203 and TFDU4204 transceivers all feature a wide supply voltage range from 2.4V to 5.5V and are operational down to 2V. The TFDU4203 has a maximum operating distance of close to 70 cm and operates on as little as 65 µA in the receive mode and 0.01 µA in the shutdown mode. At operating voltages up to 3.3V, the TFDU4202 can be operated without an external current limiting resistor to achieve a range above 1m. The TFDU4204 provides input and output logic levels adapted to 1.8V logic and can function at maximum distances of 70 cm with a power consumption of 70 µA in the receive mode and 0.01 µA in the shutdown mode. Both the TFDU4202 and TFDU4204 also feature a split power supply connection; and all the transceivers provide a tri-state output on the RXD pin.
