Set for release in January 2007, the iChipSec CO2128 secure Internet Protocol (IP) communication controller chip for point-of-sale terminals includes hardware enhancements that speed throughput by offloading IP and network security protocols from the host processor. The device integrates an ARM7 core processor, RTOS, security, and a networking protocol stack. For high bandwidth applications, it includes a parallel interface supporting rates up to 32 Mb/s with UDP/IP hardware acceleration. The chip can also perform as a router in LAN, WiFi, and modem platforms via NAT and port forwarding functionality. Other features include a 10/100 Base-T Ethernet MAC, USB v.2.0 host, an optional V.32bis soft modem, 256 KB of SRAM, and support for a wide range of Internet protocols and communication drivers. Samples of the CO2128 will be available for $8.25 each/50,000. CONNECT ONE SEMICONDUCTORS INC., Phoenix, AZ. (408) 986-9602.
