Two RFID developments have emerged from a partnership between Hyan Microelectronics Co. Ltd. (Shenzhen, China) and Paralec Inc. (Rocky Hill, N.J.). An anti-counterfeiting smart label using a printed silver antenna affixes inside or outside a product package. The label breaks instantly if someone tries to remove it. The smart labels are engineered to ISO 14443 A/15693 standards and operate at a recommended frequency of 13.56 MHz. They have a user-programmable memory of 512 bits (model 14443) or 1 kbit (model 15693). Their first commercial application will be in cell phones. The second design is RFID-based transit tickets with crease-proof antennas. The unique manufacturing process creates antennas that can be pulled and bent but continue to function.
