Low phase noise, improved spur suppression and low power consumption are features of the PE3291, a phase-locked loop IC for use in two-way pagers, cellular handsets and wireless meter-reading devices. The IC incorporates the company's FlexiPower technology, which enables the chip's prescaler to be driven with as little as 1V to significantly reduce power consumption. This, in turn, results in longer battery life for cell phones and pagers. The device's fractional-N architecture is said to provide lower phase noise at smaller step sizes. The IC is sampling now.
