Postage Stamp-Sized Package Houses GPS Receiver

Serving to complement the company's line of GPS antennas, the REB2000/2001 GPS receivers meld together SiFR Star II technology and a proprietary algorithm to deliver full GPS functionality in a postage stamp-sized package—the REB2000 measures just 30 x 30 x 8 mm and the REB2001 is 40 x 31.5 x 6.5 mm. Integrated on two chips are a GPS engine, full-function CPU, memory, and a RF front end. The chips support two recent GPS infrastructure improvements: the wide area augmentation system (WAAS) and the national network of ground and beacon-based differential stations called National Differential GPS (NDGPS).
Both receivers are 12-channel, NMEA-0183 compliant and operate on 3.3V. Power consumption is 65 mA while in trickle power mode and 170 mA in pack current mode. Acquisition times range from 48s for cold start to 8s for hot start. Reacquisition time is 0.1s. Single-unit prices for the REB2000 and REB2001 are $115 and $109, respectively. The GPS receivers are made by Royaltek Co. Ltd., a Taiwanese company.
