Analog phone manufacturers can buy a new mixed-signal audio processor that reportedly can elevate the performance of their products to nearly ISDN system levels. The highly integrated U3900BM is said to contain all of the circuitry needed for signal amplification, CEPT-filtered DTMF generation, individual tone ringing, and adaptation to the line and supply for external functions, such as electret microphone. The 44-pin device also provides a new feature called CLASS (calling line identification and spontaneous service- the service involves call waiting identification). In addition, an integrated voice switch enables hands-free microphone and loudspeaker operation.
