Unlike IR technologies, the company’s RF technology for home remote-control devices provides two-way, high-speed communication and does not require a line of sight for operation. Based on its Emerald GP500C communication controller, the company offers a set of reference designs for this emerging generation of RF remote controls (2.4 GHz, IEEE 802.15.4 compliant) and RF modules for integration into TVs, DVDs and set-top boxes. Allegedly, these kits will enable the development of ultra-low-power RF systems with a much longer battery life. Grounded on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard for multiple-device control, the reference designs come with a protocol stack of less than 4 KB. Additionally, they are based on a single-layer PCB with integrated antennas, guaranteeing a low cost BOM. For more details, call GREENPEAK TECHNOLOGIES USA, Austin, TX. (512) 464-1188.
