RS-485 Transceivers Vie For Low-Power Tasks

Oct. 8, 2008
With an eye on industrial automation and battery-powered applications, the SN65HVD485, SN65HVD3082, HVD3085E, and HVD3088E half-duplex RS-485 transceivers employ an integrated-receiver failsafe design that eliminates the need for external components.

With an eye on industrial automation and battery-powered applications, the SN65HVD485, SN65HVD3082, HVD3085E, and HVD3088E half-duplex RS-485 transceivers employ an integrated-receiver failsafe design that eliminates the need for external components. The devices sport an industry-standard SN75176 footprint, with each providing bus-pin ESD protection up to 15 kV. Operating from 5V supplies, the SN65HVD485 and SN65HVD3082 target RS-485 data-bus networks and are fully compliant with the TIA/EIA-485A standard. The HVD3085E and HVD3088E operate with low supply currents, typically less than 0.4 mA excluding the load. In shutdown mode, the supply current drops to a few nano amps. Depending on the device, data rates vary from 0.2 to 20 Mb/s. Available in eight-pin MSOP, DIP, and SOIC packages, prices range $0.59 to $0.80 each/1,000. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX.
