The WiMAX9xxx IEEE 802.16e-2005 chip scale module reportedly allows handheld manufacturers to quickly design and add WiMax functionality to devices such as handsets, mobile computers, media players, and navigational devices. Part of the SyMax family, the platform includes the WiMAX9xxx hardware and all the software necessary to provide a turnkey system for WiMAX enabled devices. The module consists of a BaseBand/MAC IC, RF transceiver, a power amplifier, memory, and matching components. Software includes drivers and application layer interfaces that support: VoIP and video/audio streaming; SDIO, SPI, and half mini card interfaces; and Windows Mobile and Linux operating systems. Engineering samples will be available this month with volume production scheduled for the second quarter of 2008. SYCHIP INC., Plano, TX. (972) 202-8888.
