Claimed to be the world's smallest single-channel RS-232 driver and receiver, ADM101E chip operates from a 5V supply and is designed to support transmission rates of up to 460 kbits/s in mobile phones, PDAs and other portable products. It houses an on-chip dc-to-dc converter, as well as a charge-pump voltage inverter to generate a -5V for the driver. The IC dissipates only 3 mW, offers ESD-protected pins and a low-power shutdown mode, and comes in a 10-pin micro-SO package.
