Designed to support the new XFP (10-Gb small form-factor pluggable) standard for optical transceiver modules, the XFP chipset can be used in Ethernet, Fibre Channel and SONET/SDH protocol applications. The chipset is protocol agnostic, uses less than one-third the power and is one-third the size of an MSA (Multisource Agreement) transceiver with parallel interface. Included in the set are the ADN2928 dual XFP signal conditioner, ADN2821 3.3V, 10 Gb/s transimpedance amplifier (TIA), two types of laser drivers (ADN2523 and ADN2530) and the ADuC7020 precision analog microcontroller. A reference design is available including the above devices for fast evaluation of transceiver designs. The chipset is hot pluggable—no power shutdown prior to installation. Interoperability challenges in implementing transceiver modules are eased by reducing the jitter requirements of a transceiver module’s transmit and receiver interface. This simplifies making transceiver modules from different manufacturers work together in the same optical network. Pricing is $50 each in large quantities. ANALOG DEVICES INC., Norwood, MA.
