Ultra-Small Any-To-Any Clock Management ICs Boost Jitter Performance

Sept. 4, 2014
Frequency clock multiplier and jitter attenuator ICs provide precise frequency conversion from any input frequency to any output frequency and jitter attenuation bandwidths from 14 to 500 Hz.

Microsemi’s ZL30252 and ZL30253 frequency clock multiplier and jitter attenuator ICs provide precise frequency conversion from any input frequency (1 kHz to 1.25 GHz) to any output frequency (1 Hz to 1.035 GHz) and jitter attenuation bandwidths from 14 to 500 Hz. From an ultra-small 5 x 5 mm package the devices provide clock multiplier jitter performance at 160 fs in the 12 kHz - 20 MHz band and jitter attenuator performance at 250 fs in the 12 kHz - 20 MHz band. When combined with ZL402xx series fan-out buffers, the ICs provide complete timing solutions for complex systems such as wireless base stations, wireless backhaul, wired infrastructure, SONET/ SDH, GE, 10G/40G/100G Ethernet, optical, storage and broadcast video applications. The devices have highly configurable output clocks and offer automatic self-configuration at power-up, supporting up to four different configurations selected using two device pins. Key features include NCO mode to control output frequencies with very high resolution by system software, digital PLL with programmable bandwidth from 14 to 500 Hz, input clock monitoring, automatic or manual input switching, three any-to-any universal clock inputs, and up to three differential outputs or six CMOS outputs. The ZL30252 and ZL30253 ICs are available now.
