The AD5206 is a digitally controlled, 8-bit, six-channel variable potentiometer. Like a mechanical potentiometer, trimmer, or variable resistor, this 256-position device offers a programmable resistance value between the A or B terminals and the wiper. Each of the six independently programmable channels contains a wiper contact that taps a fixed resistor at a point determined by the digital code loaded into the SPI-compatible serial-input register. A choice of resistance values is provided, including 10 , 50, or 100 kΩ. Programmable resistance values are critical for high-precision industrial and medical instrumentation applications, such as power-supply adjustment, gain and offset adjustment, programmable voltage-to-current conversion, programmable filters, and line impedance matching. A variety of power-supply options are available, including 3- to 5-V single-supply or ±2.7-V dual-supply operation. The AD5206 is shipped in 24-lead SOIC, TSSOP, and DIP packages. It's guaranteed to operate from −40°C to 85°C. In 1000-piece quantities, the AD5206 costs $2.47 per unit.
