3 A Laser Diode Driver Offers MPU-Based Digital Power Control

Sept. 25, 2013
3 A laser diode driver and current source provides precision pulsed current with accurate microprocessor-based digital power control up to 0.5 A at 15 V maximum forward voltage.

IXYS Colorado’s PCX-7401 laser diode driver and current source provides precision pulsed current with accurate microprocessor-based digital power control. The device is an air-cooled, bench-top current source featuring separate pulse and bias current adjustment designed to drive diode lasers, bars and arrays up to 3 A with a bias current up to 0.5 A at 15 V maximum forward voltage. The internal trigger source is capable of duty cycle or single shot modes of operation, with external triggering available, and all system configurations may be stored and recalled in the internal non-volatile memory. A color LCD provides immediate visual confirmation of all operating parameters. Rise and fall times are less than 100 nS for high speed applications and pulsed output is from 100 nS to dc. Safety features include a separate output enable key switch, an external enable control signal, over current limit, open load detection, diode steering. Automated applications can connect via RS-232, USB or Ethernet. The CE and RoHS compliant PCX-7401 laser diode driver is priced at $4,495.
