Announced as the smallest available, the HDJD-S722-QR999 CMOS color sensor measures 5 mm x 5 mm x 1 mm and is capable of detecting the presence of a particular color and identifying its exact coordinate across the full color spectrum. The device converts light to proportional RGB voltage outputs via its RGB color filters and three interleaved sets of 3 x 3 photodiode arrays. The photodiodes convert the RGB light components into photocurrents and transimpedance amplifiers transform the photocurrent to analog voltages. Voltage output from each channel increases linearly with increasing light intensity and the gain of each can be set independently. Additionally, the sensor operates on 5V and in temperatures from -40°C to 85°C. Available in a lead-free QFN, price is $10 each in low volume.
