Adding to the company's extensive line of proprietary fan controllers, the TC652 and TC653 are claimed to be the first such devices capable of sensing both system temperature and fan-fault conditions. The devices integrate a temperature sensor and a brushless dc fan controller with the company's FanSense technology in an eight-pin MSOP. These new pulse-width modulation devices are said to greatly improve system reliability, reduce fan noise, extend fan life, and lower average operating current. They require no additional software and are suitable for a wide variety of applications, such as notebook and personal computers, set-top boxes, and networking equipment. Both devices drive any standard two-wire fan through a transistor or logic-level MOSFET and provide temperature-proportional, fan-speed control. The TC652 features a minimum fan speed setting and the TC653 has an auto shutdown mode. Prices start at $1.39 each/1,000.
