Electrical Double-Layer Capacitors Enhance Reliability

Key features of Murata’s DMT series of electrical double-layer capacitors (EDLCs) include long-term high-temperature reliability (five years at 70°C), maximum operating temperature of 85°C, low resistance (130 mΩ of high-current, high-output charging and discharging), nominal capacitance range of 470 mF, and a design that enables high-voltage handling (4.2 V).

Key features of Murata’s DMT series of electrical double-layer capacitors (EDLCs) include long-term high-temperature reliability (five years at 70°C), maximum operating temperature of 85°C, low resistance (130 mΩ of high-current, high-output charging and discharging), nominal capacitance range of 470 mF, and a design that enables high-voltage handling (4.2 V).

Measuring 14 by 21 mm with a thickness of 3.5 mm, the EDLCs will find homes in applications such as solid-state-drive (SSD) and communication system backup, power assistance for smart meters, and energy-harvesting devices.

The technology’s grass roots stem from the company’s collaboration with CAP-XX. Facing growing demands for devices with greater efficiency and functionality, Murata acquired super cap technology from CAP-XX in 2008.
